Why choose bagged kiln-dried oak logs?

This pallet combines the long-burning qualities of oak with the convenience of smaller, individually packed bags.

The 40-litre format has been selected because oak is denser and heavier than birch or ash. Smaller bags help make each individual pack easier to lift and move.

The bagged format offers several practical advantages:

• Move and use one smaller bag at a time
• Store the logs in separate, tidy packs
• Avoid unloading an entire wooden crate immediately
• Distribute the bags between different storage locations
• Keep the remaining logs packed until they are required

The bags are not fitted with carry handles, but their smaller 40-litre capacity makes them more manageable than larger bags containing the same dense oak firewood.

How do kiln-dried oak logs burn?

Oak is a dense hardwood that produces a slow, steady burn and sustained heat once the fire is properly established.

Oak logs are particularly well suited to:

• Long fires through colder evenings
• Providing sustained and dependable heat
• Reducing how frequently the fire needs refuelling
• Wood-burning stoves that are already up to temperature
• Customers who prioritise burn duration over very fast lighting

Because oak is dense, it generally takes longer to catch than birch. Start with dry kindling and allow the fire to become properly established before adding the larger oak logs.

The logs may also be used in suitable open fires, fire pits, chimeneas and wood-fired ovens, subject to the appliance manufacturer’s instructions.

How much wood is on the pallet?

The pallet contains 40 tightly packed bags, each with a nominal capacity of 40 litres.

40 × 40 litres = 1,600 litres, or 1.60m³ combined nominal bag capacity.

This figure describes the combined nominal capacity of the bags. It is not a measurement of solid timber and should not be treated as an exact loose-volume or stacked-volume equivalent.

The bags are tightly packed rather than loosely filled. Comparisons with tote bags, bulk bags or hand-stacked crates must therefore account for the different packing methods and the varying amounts of air between individual logs.

How does this compare with a hand-stacked crate?

A wooden crate is measured using its hand-stacked log volume, whereas this product is measured using the nominal capacity of 40 individual bags. The figures describe different packing methods and are not directly interchangeable.

Choose the bagged pallet if smaller individual packs and easier handling are your priorities. Choose a hand-stacked crate if you prefer fewer packages and are happy to unload and store the logs after delivery.

What is included?

Your order contains:

• One pallet containing 40 stitched polypropylene bags
• Approximately 40 litres of tightly packed logs in each bag
• 100% oak hardwood logs
• Split logs with natural bark
• Logs cut to approximately 24cm, with a tolerance of ±1cm
• A pallet cover fitted for transport and temporary weather protection

Kindling and firelighters are not included.

The bags are white and are not transparent, perforated, ventilated or fitted with carry handles. They are stitched closed for transport and storage.

Ready to Burn and PEFC-certified oak logs

The logs are Ready to Burn certified under certificate number WS6431/00001 and typically measure below 20% moisture.

They are ready to use without further seasoning, provided they are kept dry and properly stored after delivery.

The bags display PEFC certification number PEFC/12-31-084.

Burning properly dried firewood helps your appliance operate more efficiently and produces a cleaner, more dependable fire than burning wet or insufficiently seasoned logs.

How to store the bagged logs

The pallet will arrive with a protective pallet cover. This provides protection during transport and temporary cover immediately after delivery, but it is not intended as a permanent outdoor storage solution.

Move the bags under suitable cover for long-term storage.

• Store the bags somewhere dry and protected from rain
• Keep them raised above wet ground
• Avoid leaving the pallet exposed outdoors for prolonged periods
• Check that water cannot collect around or beneath the bags
• Do not rely on the transport cover as permanent weatherproof storage

Free standard delivery is included to most UK mainland postcodes. Enter your postcode during checkout to confirm availability and view any applicable regional surcharge before payment.

The 40 bags are supplied together on one pallet and covered for transport.

National orders are normally delivered to the kerbside or nearest safe and accessible point. The pallet truck requires a firm, flat and level surface such as concrete or tarmac.

Pallet trucks cannot normally operate safely over grass, loose gravel, steps, steep slopes, soft ground or badly uneven surfaces.

Local delivery using our own vehicles is available in parts of South Cumbria, North Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Collection is also available from our depot in Sedbergh.
